School as the Hub

School as the hub of the community. This is a critical re-visioning of the role of the public school in the community - in an era where services available to those who can pay are drawing resources away from the public sector. No longer can schools remain isolated from the communities they serve - increasingly, they must meet a host of community needs including adult education, health and social services. We believe that school community gardens exemplify all that is good about re-imagining schools in this role - with the potential to draw in newcomer parents and to engage all ages in a life-affirming activity that reaches across all barriers - everyone's got to eat!
